Social Action Project Let's Go!

Here is the graphic organizer you will use to start thinking about, and keep track of, your work on your  social action project.  Make a copy of this and share me into it using the email jaime.g@connectcharter.ca These documents will be essential in all steps of the process, and must be kept up to date with all aspects of your project including, but not limited to: brainstorming plans conversations with contacts & contact information successes & failures questions & answers resources documentation of your work (pictures, videos, etc.)

Assignment: Connect With Your Guardians

Due Wednesday, January 15 Your task is: Make an appointment with a trusted adult/guardian to do 2 things: go over the expectations for this class watch the film Just Eat It . To access this film, use your school email and password to setup a FREE account. During and after the film, talk about the ideas presented. Have your trusted adult send me an email with the following information: that the film was watched what small action you and/or the trusted adult might take in order to combat this issue From Intermarche's Inglorious Fruit campaign.

Assignment: SDGs

Explore our class SDG chart and choose one of the SDGs we HAVEN'T explored yet.  Claim this SDG by checking in with Ms. Groeller. Using the internet, research testimonials/current events/stories, etc. to help dig more deeply into the event. Put your research together and create a 1-page infographic about this SDG that I will eventually PRINT in colour and share with your peers. Make sure to have: lived experience Canadian connection call to action (if possible) This is due by the end of class on January 24. You will have time to work on this during class (about 40 minutes x 4). Assignment: Uganda

Individually, watch this short documentary about  lived experience in Uganda . In your journal, reflect on this documentary, making sure to address the following: Consider the tug-of-war that has arisen in Uganda over ecological issues.  Consider these questions:  What is the right thing to do in this situation?  Is there a right thing to do? Which TWO of the SDGs do you think connect most clearly to this doc/film? To improve the quality of your reflection make sure to: Use details from the film to support your post.  Make connections to your world, i.e., current events in Canada/Alberta/Calgary.

Assignment: Tales by Light Reflection

In your journal, answer the following questions: 1. What single moment in this 2-part story will stay with you? 2. Use this website to explore the SDGs/Global Goals. Which ONE of these goals do you think is most reflected in this short doc?

Expectations for this class: Attendance Attending every class with a positive attitude and a passion for working hard, perhaps more academically than you are used to in other electives classes. 😉 I realize things come up, but it's very important that you come to every class to get your action project completed and to keep up with the learning in class. Volunteering Completing 20 volunteer hours per term OUTSIDE OF CLASS TIME, and 30 before May 1, in order to be eligible for the Winnipeg trip, but also because giving is essential to being an Agent of Change! Remember you MUST have these hours signed off on by your supervisor. Some possible ways to get your volunteer hours in are: lunch hours, before school, or after school at Connect running a club that has a teacher sponsor working with Ms. Veteikis in the learning commons helping out a teacher, administrator, or educational assistant (Ms. James or Ms. Riley, for example) helping out in the main office (maybe
